Facilitator Training
This program has been developed by the Board of Management whose members are qualified in the areas of social work, psychology, teaching and theology.
The curriculum aims to lay a sound information base in behavioural, emotional, and spiritual aspects of Recovery. Practical group work with development of related skills is a strong component of this course.
Foundations for Recovery
This session identifies the three goals of Facilitator Training, describes the four interrelated areas of recovery and explores the role of the facilitator with particular focus on the Arena of Healing as a visual image to help identify the healing process. The session concludes with a small group demonstration - introductory small group.
Core Issues
This session looks at the core issues in recovery ministry, why these themes recur, the origin of our core needs, the essential dynamic of learning by reflection, and the consequences of the fall of humanity. The session concludes with a small group demonstration - the "forming" stage of the group.
The Wounded Soul
This session aims to identify the differences between shame and guilt, it explains the protective behaviours that can grow out of the soil of shame. It also outlines the cycle of addiction and the core issues involved, and uncovers the way people react to shaming messages, and the consequences of shaming behaviours. The session concludes with a small group demonstration - ending a session.
Function and Dysfunction
This session begins by introducing the Johari Window as a visual model to assist participants to understand what is involved in the group process. Family systems including topics such as common causes of family dysfunction, the dynamics of family function and dysfunction and the characteristics of a functional and dysfunctional family are all discussed in detail. The session concludes with a small group demonstration - linking a common theme: anger.
Healing as a Process
This session covers the rebuilding process and how healing comes through prayer, forgiveness, the word of God, spirit inspired imagination and breaking the power of spiritual bondage.
Grief and Loss
This session looks at the core issue of grief and the healing process, its importance to recovery, and grief recovery models. The elements of grief are explored particularily, grief responses, unhelpful and helpful responses to the grieving person and relevance to the group process. The session concludes with a small group demonstration - how to handle prayer.
Forgiveness
This session covers the elements of forgiveness, the barriers to forgiveness, the results of unforgiveness, what forgiveness is and is not, and how you can know whether or not you have forgiven. The session concludes with a small group demonstration - handling changes.
